Mumbai University is going to establish its 1st offshore campus in Dubai soon. Plan to set the campus in Dubai has already been grounded. Sanjay Deshmukh who is the vice chancellor of the university clearly stated that the institution would be offering three UG courses in the disciplines of Economics, Psychology and Sociology. The first academic session will start from 2018-2019.
He added that a site has already been found in Dubai to set up the varsity’s campus and a partner of the project will be funding the establishment.
Not disclosing the details of the partnership, he said that infrastructural grants will be sponsored by the partner detail. The University, in return, will share its fee revenue. Now the varsity would proceed towards the process of seeking permission to start the courses.

Setting up of campus will enhance the reach of the varsity and will further target students in UAE.
Also according to a source, in the budget session of 2016-2017, a provision of Rs. 20 lakh was passed to set campuses in abroad.
On the other hand, due to lack of funds, the Vice chancellor’s idea to set a campus in USA has been postponed. Online campus is the more distant part of the sea in view, Deshmukh stated. He said that having a real campus will be a costly affair. Instead, there are many offers from a lot of varsities to establish an online university in their respective campuses, which will be more convenient for students. He added that online learning programmes are also being accepted among scholars more rapidly.

Mumbai University is going to be India’s second state university to go international. Savitribai Phule University is the first varsity which got its campus at Ras al Khaimah in UAE in the year 2009. However, the plan flopped as there was no one who sought admission there thereby forcing the campus to shut.
