The leading tribal organisation of Nagaland Naga Hoho has urged the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor for Nagaland University. They appealed that the new appointment should be made without any political interventions and bias. In a representation submitted to the Governor P B Acharya, the organization regretted that even after 22 years of its existence, the University was unable to attain its height of excellence at par with other progressive Central Universities of the country.

Ove the years Nagaland University was burdened with several issues including financial misappropriation by the institutional heads. It resulted in series of agitations and removal officials of the University on corruption charges. The VC had to be removed several times. The organization expressed its deep concerns over the lapses. It says that in spite of huge potential, the University has no educational environment and is yet to have a strong academic foundation.

Naga Hoho also highlighted that for the past few years the University has been surrendering a yearly plan for the development of the university. In spite of that no development work for the University has been undertaken yet.
The Hoho also pointed out that while depriving the local qualified unemployed youth of the state, people from outside the states like Manipur and Assam have been employed in the University. The organization now wants to create a good atmosphere and the new Vice Chancellor should be appointed. The Governor of Nagaland is yet to respond to this appeal by the Naga HoHo.
