National Council for Teacher Education ( NCTE ) has taken a historical step by granting approval to Diploma course in Pre-School Education (DPSE). District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), located in Medak (Telangana) sought approval from NCTE for DPSE course. Granting approval to the new course, NCTE informed that the new course could be introduced from the upcoming academic session, i.e., 2018-19. Aspiring candidates for a bright career as pre-school teachers can take up DPSE course at DIET Medak .
DIET Medak will offer DPSE course in English medium , and the annual intake of the course will be 50. The duration of the course is two years, and DIET Medak will implement the course as per NCTE guidelines, rules and regulations. Commissioner and Director of School Education, Telangana revealed that SCERT Telangana will frame the guidelines regarding the number of working days, minimum attendance required, appointment of teachers and method of conducting exams.

Already, SCERT Telangana framed curriculum for the new DPSE course. Students enrolled in this course will have to undergo a mandatory internship programme in government primary schools where the Anganwadi centres are functioning. The final and practical exams for the first and second-year students of DPSE course will be conducted by Director of Government Examinations, Telangana. Faculty who are rendering their services at DIET Medak will be utilised to teach DPSE students too.

SCERT will also engage seven guest faculty members as per the guidelines of NCTE. The existing infrastructure of DIET Medak will be utilised for running DPSE course.
