NCTE to Grade B.Ed and Teacher Training Institutes to Improve Standards

NCTE or National Council for Teacher Education will begin the process of grading teacher training institutes and B.Ed colleges across the country from July 10, 2017. Initially, NCTE will start assessing the colleges in Bihar. Dr. Santosh Mathew, Chairperson of NCTE revealed that each institute would be classified into four categories, i.e., A, B, C & D.

After the grading process, the institutes that fall under Category D will have no other option but to shut down. The institutes that fall under Category C will be inspected again within a year. NCTE will give a deadline for one year to ‘C’ category institutes and if these institutes fail to maintain standards, NCTE will issue notices to these colleges to shut down.

Among the above-mentioned key elements, NCTE will give more emphasis and weightage to the methods used by the teachers in the teaching process and the learning levels of the students.

NCTE has already notified the details of various institutes on the official website which had submitted the affidavit sought by the council or replied to the show cause notices issued by the council. NCTE further advised the students to check the list of colleges on the official website, and seek admission only in these colleges.
