Mr. Gajendra Chauhan, former Chairman of FTII congratulated the newly appointed Chairperson of FTII, Mr. Anupam Kher . Sharing his experience as the Chairperson, he expressed that he did not have enough time to carry out his responsibilities along with a few disturbances that were existent on the campus.
Chauhan was appointed as the Chairman of FTII in June 2015. His 15-month tenure was surrounded by protest from students who claimed that his appointment was merely a political move. This ultimately led to him assuming charge as FTII Chairman in January 2016 after a delay of more than six months.

He further indicated that FTII has been facing some major issues at the moment which need supreme administrative guidelines for the desired output. He hoped that Mr. Anupam Kher would work towards solving all the major issues and promote efficiency in the working of the oldest and the most regarded film education institute of the country.
During his tenure, Chauhan was unable to solve the major issues due to the controversy that he was surrounded by with respect to his appointment. However, he tried to work on a selected few issues - especially those pertaining to increasing salaries for the teachers, finishing of diploma courses and improving hostel facilities. He was able to resolve some of these issues while plenty are still pending.

Even though Mr. Anupam Kher’s appointment was officially made on October 11, 2017, the tenure period will be counted from March 2017 just like Gajendra Chauhan's appointment was counted from March 2015 instead of June 2015. This process is also called as block appointment, which is likely to have a retrospective effect.
