Following the Centre’s order, the government of Punjab has decided to hold joint counselling for admission to Post Graduate (PG) medical courses. On this occasion, the government has uploaded a notice regarding the same on the official website of Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER).
As per the official notice, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) will conduct the joint counselling for filling PG medical seats as per NEET-PG merit. The official notice also indicated that Deemed varsities and private medical colleges must also take part in the joint counselling and they have no authority hold separate counselling.

As per the official notice, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences located in Amritsar and Bathinda need to participate in joint counselling. These two private institutes were given Deemed status earlier. Apart from these two institutes, the official notification also listed the names of private medical and dental colleges which have to take part in joint counselling.
Last year, all these institutes carried out separate counselling to fill up the seats even though the Centre gave direction to hold combined counselling. One of the officials associated with DMER revealed that similar admission process would be conducted to fill undergraduate medical as well as dental seats.
Students hailed the decision taken by the government as they need not apply for multiple colleges for seeking admission.
