Even as the construction of a spacious campus of IIM Trichy is on at full swing, the inauguration of the new campus is supposed to be delayed further by three more months.
Right now IIM-T is functioning on the campus of the NIT Trichy . It was to be shifted to the new campus which is being constructed in an area of 175 acres of land at Chinna Suriyur Village on Tiruchi-Pudukottai Road near Bharathidasan University by June-July.

However, the institute could not be shifted because of delay in awarding the contract for providing furniture to the academic and administrative blocks, classrooms, and others due to the model code of conduct enforced for the Assembly election of the state held in May. But the authorities believed that the work would be completed by September-October of this year.
It has come to light that the commissioning of the new campus is not possible by October due to non-completion of the scheduled work. The construction of academic block, faculty quarters, administrative block, and hostels is almost over. The electrical and electronic works have to be tested. The provision of furniture is yet to be made in all classrooms.
The high-performance information technology computing system is coming at an estimate of about Rs.13 crore. The project work for the same has started already.

Senior officials of the project expressed hope that all work will be over by the end of December. Then, the new campus could be inaugurated in the first week of January.
A senior official of IIM-T informed that the concerned stakeholders have been asked to speed up all work including electrical, civil, and electronic work. The progress of work was being scrutinized on a daily basis.
