Premier Central University of the country Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is going to introduce a first-of-its-kind certificate course for the student of science graduates in Electron Microscopy. The course is open to BSc, BE, BTech and diploma holders in engineering and technology or equivalent. The course with a five-day module is scheduled to start from 27th to 31st July. This is a trial run for the course and whether it will a regular feature in the University’s academic calendar or not yet to be decided. After the completion of the course, students will be offered certificates,” reveals official from the University. “The course under skill development programme comprising interactive lectures and extensive hands-on practical training in groups of four or less using state-of-the-art electron microscopy facility is on offer at our Advanced Instrumentation Research Facility (AIRF),” said a University official. AIRF is the specialised research facility, created with basic instruments with an aim to offer advanced analytical instruments for research various areas such as Physical, environmental, biological, allied and interdisciplinary. The course will be divided in four parts: working principal of electron microscopy; instrumentation of electron microscopy; sample preparation for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and recent development in Electron Microscopy. Transmission Electron microscopy (TEM) is a microscopy technique in which a beam of electrons is transmitted through an ultra-thin specimen, interacting with the specimen as it passes through.
