It is good news for the aspirants who are interested in pursuing unconventional courses and seeking formal training in such fields. The University of Mumbai has come up with various new courses such as Bachelor’s degree in transport management, culinary arts and others. The move taken by the varsity will tap the demand for unconventional courses. Earlier, students who were interested in taking up careers in lesser-known streams like interior designing relied on either add-on courses or vocational courses. However, the University of Mumbai has taken a step to offer these courses to meet the requirements of industry and students in specific domains.

Last year, the University of Mumbai launched B.A in Film, TV & New Media Production programme. Currently, the following colleges affiliated to Mumbai University are offering this programme: -
- Gyan Sadhana College
- Patkar College
- Vande Mataram College
- Thakur College
- K.C. College
Principal of K C College revealed that the course has been highly successful. Mumbai is the hub for film and television industry, and the leading university of the city did not offer any formal course in this field yet. Therefore, various colleges requested the varsity regarding the same after which the course came into existence in 2016, she added. She also mentioned that the city is bestowed with resources that are available for introducing the course. Therefore, there was no difficulty in launching the course in Film, Television and New Media Production.
In the year 2015-16, the varsity had launched B.Com in Transport Management. During the first year, a total number of 63 students enrolled for the course. However, the number jumped to 240 in 2016. The figures reveal that the demand for the course has been increasing gradually. Principal of Thakur College was of the opinion that the varsity needs to launch more skill-based courses to bridge the demand-supply gap in the creative industries.

Transport Management and Film & TV production were certificate or add-on courses earlier. However, the varsity revived them into professional courses.
The University of Mumbai also launched M.A in Leadership programme last year that received a tremendous response. Senior bureaucrats, managing directors and CEOs of various multinational companies applied for this programme. This year, there is a stiff competition for the course. The varsity received 120 applications for the admission to M.A Leadership program while the total intake is 60.
