A new international hostel at the south campus of Panjab University was inaugurated on October 2, 2016, by the Governor of Punjab, VP Badnore and Member of Parliament (MP), Chandigarh, MP Kirron Kher.
The hostel has been named after Sarvadaman Chowla, a renowned Mathematician who was also a part of Punjab University in Lahore. It is the first hostel on PU campus with international standard amenities. The hostel consists of 100 residents, and some rooms are kept aside for visiting international faculty and students.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Badnore said that Panjab University is one of the greatest varsities in the country. He appreciated the achievements of the university and mentioned that apart from buildings and infrastructure, it is the students and alumni which make PU a great varsity. He stressed on the importance of exchange programme and endowment funds. On this occasion, Mr. Badnore launched the oral history project and the website.
Kirron Kher, MP of Chandigarh and alumni of PU recalled her days at the varsity. She remembered PU as her home and felt delighted while inaugurating the hostel. As an alumni of PU, she felt proud and thanked the VC for inviting her to the inauguration.

The inaugural session was also graced by the presence of Former VC of PU, Prof. Bambah, Former PU Dean University Instructions, Prof. AK Bhandari, Dean, International Students’ Prof. Deepti Gupta and others. Students and faculty were also present on occasion.
