A meeting of the Board of Finance (BoF) of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh was held on 3rd January 2020. In the meeting, the BoF approved the budget for a number of new additions to the university, one of which is a new Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme. The MBA programme will be added to the 2020-21 academic session of the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), Chandigarh.
The new MBA course at Panjab University will be on capital markets. Panjab University Syndicate had given approval for this course in a Syndicate meeting held last year, in 2019. The total cost for the course is specified as Rs. 30 lakhs for the first year and Rs. 6 lakhs for the second year of study. UIAMS also received Rs. 10,90,000 for the setting up of a library reading hall.

The University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) was established in 2008 with a motive to offer management programmes for the development of managerial skills in niches based on industry requirements. The institute offers MBA programmes in a multitude of specialisations, including Finance, Marketing, Human Resource and Operations.

Apart from the novel MBA programme, the BoF discussed a variety of other agendas as well. In the same meeting, it approved a budget of Rs. 23,53,000 for 13 passenger lifts in the University Institue of Engineering and Technology (UIET) Block II in the PU campus, Rs. 8,40,200 was approved for the construction of washrooms, Rs. 7,78,400 for toilets at the Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Chandigarh and Rs. 20,83,000 for adding and improving a number of amenities at Panjab University's main guest house.
