The Government of Andhra Pradesh has confirmed that Acharya Nagarjuna University PG Centre located in Ongole – Prakasam district will be transformed into a university. The state government has issued a Government Order (GO) confirming the setting up of a new university in Ongole. AP HRD Minister, Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao revealed that the new university would be named after a popular freedom fighter Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu.
AP Chief Minister, Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu will inaugurate Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu University in the upcoming Gnana Bheri programme. The exact date will be announced soon.

In order to make the new university start functioning from the upcoming academic session, AP government will set up the varsity on a temporary campus of ANU PG centre. The 114-temporary campus will start its operations after the inauguration. Around 138 unaided degree and PG colleges working under the ambit of AMU PG Centre – Ongole will be affiliated to Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu University.
Except for Vizayanagaram, all the districts across the state have universities. Until last year, there were several proposals to set up a university in Prakasam district. After considering several factors, the state government has given the nod to upgrade existing ANU PG Centre into Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu University.
