Mr. Devanand Shinde, Vice Chancellor of Shivaji University took charge as the Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai on August 9, 2017. Existing Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Sanjay Deshmukh went on indefinite leave amid the chaos in the varsity's examination department.
As soon as assuming the charge of VC, Mr. Shinde assured that he would take steps to declare the long delayed results of Mumbai University as early as possible. Already, the varsity had violated several deadlines for declaring the results and thousands of answer sheets are still not evaluated. Assuming the charge of VC is an additional responsibility for Mr. Devanand Shinde.

Mr. Shinde indicated that he was still trying to understand the evaluation and assessment pattern of the university. He did not have adequate awareness on the ‘On Screen’ evaluation and assessment process adopted by the University of Mumbai. Therefore, he decided to visit the two campuses of Mumbai University to have a clear understanding of the system and problems associated with it.
Giving details about the assessment pattern of Shivaji University, Mr. Shinde pointed that the varsity follows manual assessment system. Information and Communication Technology is only being used in some of the activities of the varsity. Therefore, he did not know much about the new online evaluation system of the University of Mumbai.

Pro Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, Mr. Dhiren Patel pointed out few issues with the evaluation system. He also constituted a committee to sort out the issues and push the stakeholders to carry out their responsibilities.
Governor of Maharashtra directed the varsity to declare the results by July 31, 2017. However, the varsity failed to meet the deadline. The evaluation process is still underway.
