NExT Step 1 Exam: The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been authorized to conduct the National Exit Test or NExT. The test is designed to replace the conventional university and institutional theory examinations of III MBBS and/or Final MBBS Part II. The exam will be conducted in two steps: NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2. The following page details all the important features and the broad outline of NeXT Step 1 exam.
NExT mock tests are to begin from July 28, 2023, registrations for which are now active: NExT Exam Mock Test Registration Link .
Important instructions regarding NExT Step 1 Exam
The important features are listed below:- Mode: NExT Step 1 is a theory examination unlike NExT Step 2 which is a practical/clinical test. It will be conducted as an online Computer-Based Test (CBT).
- Question Paper Pattern: NExt Step 1 question paper pattern will consist of more than one type of multiple-choice questions. It will be held for a total of 100 marks (subject to change in future as per NMC/AIIMS guidelines).

Subjects:
The following six subjects are specified under NExT Step 1 exam for III MBBS /Final MBBS:
- Medicine and allied disciplines
- Surgery and allied disciplines
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Paediatrics
- Otorhinolaryngology
- Ophthalmology
- Eligibility criteria: All candidates who have completed III MBBS /Final MBBS from an NMC-recognized college are eligible to appear for NExT.
- Number of attempts: No restriction is placed on the number of times a candidate can appear for NExT Step 1. Only, before reappearing for Step 1, the candidate must have completed Step 2.
- Time Limit: The candidate can appear for NExT only within 10 years of joining the MBBS exam.
- Passing Marks: The candidate must score 50% of the maximum raw marks to pass NExT Step 1. Passing in individual subjects is mandatory to pass the overall exam.
- Counselling: The counselling body and procedure regarding NExT will be conveyed later.
