National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad is planning to launch a new course, i.e., Masters in Design Education by 2018. The main objective behind launching a new course is to expand the sphere of design education in the country.
The governing council of NID is working on designing the framework of the course, and the proposal will be sent to NID Council and Senate next month. As more NIDs are going to start functioning soon, the need for qualified faculty is also one of the issues that have been concerning the governing body of NID. Therefore, the issue will be discussed with Senate soon.

Pradyumna Vyas, Director NID Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Gandhinagar said that the discussions related to the introduction of Masters in Design Education are going on and the final decision has to be taken by the Senate which is the decision-making authority for NIDs. The programme is expected to be launched in 2018 and the possibility of launching the course this year is less.

He further added that more design schools are coming up and there is a need to create PG holders in design education who can deal with complete design thinking. Currently, the governing council is figuring out various possibilities for launching the course. If everything goes as per plan, the course will be launched in 2018. The batch will consist of 15 students.
Nowadays the sphere of design education has been gaining momentum, and there is a need for developing a wide range of course in this area.
