National Institute of Fashion Technology will soon get eminent international academicians in the field of fashion and design management under the Global Initiative for Academic Network (GIAN), an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource and Development. For this purpose, NIFT has sent a proposal to the HRD Ministry.
Shri. Ajay Ramta, Minister of Textiles (state) made this statement in Lok Sabha on April 6, 2017. Through the Global Initiative for Academic Network (GIAN), boarding and lodging facilities for international academicians will be borne by National Institute of Fashion Technology. Mr. Ajay further explained that there would be no additional fee or burden on students in this regard.

Prakash Javadekar, HRD Minister keeps on emphasizing that there is a need to boost international rankings of Indian institutes. For this purpose, the institutes shall come forward to launch student-exchange and faculty-exchange programmes. Therefore, the ministry has launched GIAN initiative. The main objective of this initiative is to capture the pool of emerging entrepreneurs and scientists at an international level. The aim is to engage these scientists and entrepreneurs with higher educational institutes in the country.

GIAN initiative will amplify the existing academic resources of India and improve the quality of country’s scientific and technological capacity at par with international standards. The initiative will boost the global outreach of premier institutes in India that include IITs, NITs, IIMs, IIITs, NIFTs and others. These institutes will have a chance to be listed in global ranking lists through the GIAN initiative.
