Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the permanent campus of NISER in Jatani near Bhubaneshwar. The Prime Minister is on a two day visit of the state. He stated that he not only wishes to make the campus the greenest campus in the country but also wants the campus to think about implementing solar technology with zero discharge.
NISER Director Professor Chandrasekhar greeted the PM along with the Chief Minister Mr. Patnaik. The Chief Minister of the state addressed the gathering before the inauguration by the PM and in his statement he said that Biju babu had a strong inclination towards science and technology and wanted the youth to develop a scientific temper. He also said that it was a matter of pride and great fortune that an institute of such high calibre was present in Bhubaneshwar. This city has been named as the number one smart city of the nation.
PM Modi began his address by greeting everybody with ‘Jai Jagannath’. In his address the PM stated that he really felt very grateful in dedicating this institution to the nation. The PM would also be dedicating IOCL’s oil refinery at Paradip to the nation and would also be paying a visit to the Lord Jagannath Temple at Puri.
In his address Modi stated that he did not find a single tree while on his way here and therefore encouraged the students to make the campus the greenest campus in the entire nation. The institute of NISER has been established on the lines of IISc Bangalore and its five sister institutions IISERs that are being established at Pune, Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Mohali and Bhopal.
The main focus of NISER is to develop the human resources in science for the knowledge economies of the future. The Prime Minister in addition to inaugurating the institute also felicitated the Google girl Lalita Prasida Sripada Srisai, student scientist Srikant Sahoo and ASHA worker Jamuna Mani on the occasion.
