The NIT Silchar recently held its 14th Convocation at the newly-built sports complex of the institute in the presence of thousands of students, parents, guests and faculty members.
Dr Rashed Ghulam Sayed, Directpr, Ghalib University and Hospital, Afghanistan, was the guest of honour at the ceremony. Dr Sayed in his speech said that both India and Afghanistan share a rich bond of cultural relations. More than 100 students from Afganistan are given scholarships in the Masters and PhD programmes and students get an opportunity to visit India and learn so many valuable things. ‘We look forward to strengthening this relation between the two nations,’ he added.
A total of 773 students were awarded degrees in BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA and PhD in various disciplines. There were 8 medal and endowment prize winners for their exceptional academic performance.
The Director of the institute, Prof NV Deshpande, in his speech, expressed his happiness at the achievement of the students and said that it was indeed a very proud moment for the institute to have produced these fresh graduates who will now be contributing a great deal to the nation. Citing the institute’s achievement, he said that NIT Silchar has been awarded as the Best Engineering College in East India 2015 by ASSOCHAM and in a recent development, the institute bagged a start-up centre from the Government of India under the Start Up India Stand Up India Scheme. He has requested the stakeholders of the institute to keep their interest alive for the institute and to work consistently to overcome the challenges in the coming days.
The convocation ceremony was overall a huge success.
