All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has granted the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy with the status of the mentor institute to 14 engineering institutions in the region. AICTE has taken this initiative to guide and disseminate knowledge to mentee institutions, which is a part of Margdarshan scheme . The main objective of this scheme is to conduct national-level workshops, faculty development programmes, guest lectures, and other activities to ensure technical upliftment of all the member institutions.
A grant of Rs 30 lakh has been sanctioned by AICTE, and the duration of this project is three years. According to the director of (NIT) Trichy - Mini Shaji Thomas, the initiative is meant to improve the technical education. She said that the scheme can encourage students to come up with innovative ideas, which will help improve educational standards and research aptitude.

The Principals and senior Professors of the mentee institutions have been informed about the Margdarshan scheme and its execution by Dr. N Sivakumaran, chief coordinator and Dr. G. Saravana Ilango co-coordinator of NIT Trichy. The programme will improve the self-confidence, communication skills and lateral thinking among the students and faculties.

- Saranathan College of Engineering, Trichy
- MAM College of Engineering and Technology, Trichy
- Kings College of Engineering, Pudukkottai
- Pavai College of Technology, Namakkal
The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli was founded in the year 1964. It is a public engineering institution, which is located near the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. NIT Trichy is one of the oldest institutions of the NIT system.
