The aspirants who have been eagerly waiting for UGC NET 2017 examination were disappointed and shocked after CBSE released the exam dates of NET 2017 examination that will take place in November. Few students protested against the decision of curtailing the bi-annual examination to a yearly event.
Usually, UGC NET examination takes place twice in a year. However, the UGC decided to conduct NET examination once in a year recently. The notification for UGC NET 2017 examination had been delayed for two months, and CBSE has released the details of next examination that too with extended dates. Now, UGC NET 2017 examination that was supposed to take place in July will be held on November 19, 2017.

Enraged with the decision of the UGC to hold UGC NET examination once in a year, activists of Students Federation of India or SFI staged a protest in front of the headquarters of the University Grants Commission or UGC. The students claimed that it is not judicial to scrap the examination schedule of July.
The decision was taken by UGC to conduct NET 2017 on November 2017 also indicates that there will be no NET examination in December or January. Usually, NET examination takes place in January and June every year. Hereafter, the NET examination will take place only once in a year.
SFI also claimed that if NET examination takes place once in a year, the number of candidates qualifying NET would be effectively reduced to half. There is no transparency in the functioning of government, and the decision was taken without any policy document of the UGC.

Student Islamic Organisation also claimed that UGC has betrayed the students by scrapping the July session examination.
According to the official announcement of UGC, the next UGC NET 2017 examination will take place on November 19, 2017, and the registrations for the same will commence from August 1, 2017. CBSE will release the detailed notification of UGC NET 2017 examination on June 24, 2017. The deadline to submit the applications will be August 30, 2017.
