The expected aptitude test that was to be a part of the JEE Advanced examination for the admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has been shelved for now. JEE Advanced will be completely revamped into an online exam from next year with no changes in the exam pattern. The HRD Ministry has not yet come to a consensus with respect to the inclusion of an aptitude test in JEE Advanced following which the matter has been put on hold for the next four years.
Earlier, there were discussions on including on aptitude test in JEE Advanced to test whether a student has the required skills and acumen to take up engineering for four years at the prestigious IITs.

An official associated with the HRD hoped that the motive to include an aptitude test in JEE Advanced would be reconsidered in the future. It will be a determining factor to assess the capability of a student to cope up with the system and hence could be a positive move.
On the other hand, as per students, the introduction of an aptitude test may also make the exam even tougher.
The second stage of the engineering entrance exam. JEE Advanced will go online from the year 2018. The details regarding the registration and application process will be released by the conducting body (which will be one of the old IITs) in the month of December 2017 or January 2018.

JEE's new pattern was launched in the year 2013 based on the recommendations made by former HRD Minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal. Later, the exam was split into two parts, i.e., JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. It was decided that only those candidates who secure a rank below 2.2 lakh in JEE Mains will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced which will be the ultimate gateway to admission in IITs of the country.
