In the wake of the reports that Union HRD Ministry wants all Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) to remove of reservation for faculty recruitments, IIM-Ahmadabad has come with its version terming it as a mere suggestion by the ministry and not getting any order on it.
Ashish Nanda, IIM-A’s Director said that they are trying its best to induct people from the weaker sections in teaching posts. MHRD has not ordered to fulfill obligations and they have asked to invite people from weaker sections for teaching posts. The institute is already doing it and they will re-double their efforts.

The institute also has undertaken the task of restoration and up gradation of Vikram Sarabhai Library at the management institute’s campus.
Already HRD Ministry had told that constitutional provisions are supreme and these management schools should also enforce them. The IIM-A Board also approved a panel of three new names suggested by a Search Committee for the post of IIM-A Chairman. The post has been lying vacant since A M Naik, Chairman of L&T Group, stepped down on December 31 last year. He stepped down two years before the end of his tenure.

Importantly, MHRD in last May rejected three names sent by IIM Ahmedabad administration for the position and asked a list of new candidates. Nanda also said that the Search Committee has once again submitted three names to the Board in the meeting. The Board has given its consent on these names. But he declined to reveal the names.
IIMA is to restore and upgrade its library and signed an agreement with TCS Foundation, a not-for-profit arm of IT giant Tata Consultancy Services for which TCS Foundation will support the project with a funding of Rs 20 crore. The restoration work is expected to be completed by 2018 said Barindra Sanyal, Director of TCS Foundation.
