Times Higher Education (THE) has released the World University Ranking for Arts and Humanities and none of the Indian Universities have made it to the list. The Stanford University has made it to the top of the list for its diverse Arts and Humanities education.
In THE overall world university rankings 2018, Indian institutes and universities had slipped several places due to lack of research output and fewer international students and faculty. Whereas, a quarter of the universities in the United States have been listed in Arts and Humanities list 2018.
Seven of the US universities have also made it to the top 10, whereas, the other three universities in THE’s top 10 Arts and Humanities universities rankings are from the United Kingdom.

Apart from the US, universities in Germany, Britain Netherlands also got listed in the top 100. THE ranked close to 400 Arts and Humanities Universities across the world. Out of these, roughly 20 to 25 universities were from Canada and Australia. 30 of the Asian universities also made it to the list.
The universities are ranked on the basis of the same parameters that are used to prepare the overall global universities rankings, keeping the subjects in mind. Weightage is given to the aspects that are essential for the subjects in question.

The absence of Indian universities from the rankings sheds light on the quality of Arts and Humanities education in the country. Despite their reputation, universities like Delhi University and the University of Mumbai have not been able to meet the international standards of Arts and Humanities studies.
