No Plans to Advance CBSE Board Exams: HRD Ministry

Minister of State (HRD), Mr. Upendra Kushwaha informed the Rajya Sabha through a written statement stating that the Central Board of Secondary Education has no plans to advance the dates of Class 10 & Class 12 examinations that usually take place in the month of March every year. He further clarified that CBSE had not presented any proposal regarding the same to the HRD Ministry. There were speculations that CBSE Class 12 & Class 10 examinations might take place in February.

The issue was raised in Rajya Sabha, as many schools raised complaints about the matter. However, Mr. Upendra Kushwaha clarified that advancing the dates of CBSE board examinations was just a rumour. Earlier, CBSE indicated that it will take the decision regarding advancing the dates of board exams only after holding consultations with the stakeholders including schools.

Previously, CBSE wished to advance the dates of board examinations to regulate the discrepancies in the evaluation process and give more time to check the answer sheets properly. CBSE also wanted to impose a cap on the number of answer sheets checked by an evaluator per day. However, CBSE has not taken any decision on the same.

Earlier, CBSE constituted committees to examine the loopholes in the examination process and suggest remedial measures. CBSE took this decision after it received numerous totalling errors in CBSE Class 12 exams. Many students also criticised the evaluation process. Following this, CBSE decided to regulate these kinds of mistakes in the future.
