The apex court of India, i.e., Supreme Court announced that it would hold a further hearing for a plea on NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test that was filed by Student Islamic Organisation (SIO). The SIO sought the Supreme Court's help to include Urdu as one of the mediums of paper for NEET for the year 2017. The petition was heard on March 24, 2017, i.e., Friday.
Ravindra Garia, who is the lawyer for this case, explained the bench that the matter has been stretched and prolonged for a while now. He added that the SIO is hopeful that the decision regarding this will be taken as early as possible. He pointed that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had filed the petition in advance on the same. Therefore, the final decision is pending and SIO is expecting an early approval.

He further expressed that there is only one and a half month left for NEET-UG 2017 examination and the apex court shall provide clarity whether Urdu will be included or not. Most of the students have been studying in Urdu medium schools and inclusion of Urdu in NEET will benefit them to do well in the examination.

Earlier, CBSE had clarified that they are ready to include Urdu in NEET from the next academic session (2018-19), but not this year. The final verdict of Supreme Court is expected by the end of this month. On March 31, 2017, the Supreme Court will also announce its final decision on age limit in NEET.
