The total number of Indian students going to Canada for higher studies has crossed 100,000 for the first time in the year 2017. However, the number of students admitted in the year 2017 was not taken into consideration, which means that the number of Indian students in Canadian institutes will be higher.
According to an official data of IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), Canada has been successful in attracting 31,975 international students (originating from India) in the year 2015. The number of Indian students in Canadian colleges was increased to 52,890 by 2016, and by August 2017, the number of Indian students in Canada was 44,855. As per expectations, the inflow of Indian students will be another record by the end of 2017.

In all, India is the second top contributor of students to Canadian universities. While China dominated the list with 28% students in Canada, India bagged the second spot with 25% students.
One of the major reasons for the rise in Indian students in Canada might be rigid immigration rules by the US government. Therefore, many students are looking for alternative countries for taking up higher studies other than the US. A premier university in Canada like the University of Toronto has been highly benefited from this significant rise. The varsity has witnessed a two-thirds increase in the number of Indian students.

Vice-President of the University of Toronto, Professor Ted Sargent revealed that the country is intended to reach out globally, and students can treat Canada as a welcoming nation for higher studies.
