An Organic Agriculture University is likely to be set up in Goa which will focus on the studies of organic crops that can be grown in the state of Goa. Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar informed about the establishment of Organic University in the state
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has given an in-principle nod to the proposal during a meeting on November 12, 2019. During the meeting, he informed that Goa state government has set a target of one year to establish the university and it will be the first of its kind in the state of Goa.He further informed that the university will focus on the study and research of organic crops that can be grown in Goan soil.
Kavlekar who is also the Agriculture Minister of the state informed that he visited Pune Agriculture University and Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth to take inputs and suggestions for establishing Goa Organic Agriculture University.

The setting up of Organic Agriculture University will benefit the rural economy and in the development of the areas that have been affected due to the half of mining activities in Goa. The government has already identified certain areas for the project and the shortlisting of some areas is also going on side by side.
Dean of the Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth Dr. Madan Gopal Varshney has been appointed as the Chief Strategist for the establishment of Organic Agriculture University. The state government decided to appoint him as the Chief Strategist.
