The administration of Osmania University is planning to recruit faculty or professors from international universities to strengthen its academics and provide global exposure/ expertise to students in different subjects. However, the final decision about the recruitment of international faculty will be taken only after filling 400 existing posts. Over 1,251 posts have been sanctioned to Osmania University, out of which, 60% posts are vacant due to the retirement of several teachers.
Finally, the state government has given approval for filling 400 posts. The administration will also begin hiring international faculty and cut down the vacancies drastically. Once the direct recruitment to various posts concludes, the varsity will begin the recruitment of international faculty.

Vice Chancellor of Osmania University, Professor Ramachandram revealed that the University Grants Commission would give autonomy to the universities that come under Category I and II. Similarly, institutes with a NAAC score of more than 3.51 are free to hire international faculty without the approval of UGC. Osmania University bagged A+ grade from NAAC in 2017 and the varsity is free to hire foreign teachers, he expressed.
In its third cycle of NAAC assessment, Osmania University scored 3.52 CGPA. Now, OU can recruit international faculty on a tenure or contact up to 20% of the total sanctioned faculty.

According to UGC guidelines, Category I and II institutes can invite foreign faculty working in universities or institute that featured in the list of top 500 universities ( THE and QS Rankings ) across the globe.
