The Medical Council of India (MCI) maintains high and uniform standards of Medical Education in India. In 2018, the council revamped the syllabus after about 21 years and introduced an Outcome-based Learning (OBL) that targets the Attitude, Ethics & Communication (AETCOM) of medicos. This new approach of the undergraduate MBBS syllabus will help students move towards a value-based education.

In a conversation with a renowned media house, Lewis said that Outcome-based Learning is reverse engineering. He says that this is a need-based approach which specifies the levels of outcomes by brining learning into focus rather than teaching.

He further added in the discussion that currently, the syllabus of medical education is stuffed with components of knowledge in medical education terms, but, the system needs to run on giving and receiving feedback. He also shared examples that prove the effectiveness of OBT in the healthcare sector.
