A week-long international workshop on "Process Safety and Risk Engineering" commenced at Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh from 15 November 2016 onwards. The important event is being organised under GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) that aims at to introduce the participants to fundamentals of process safety and risk engineering.

There are 30 participants hailing from various academic institutes and industries who are participating in the workshop. They include-
- Researchers
- Faculty members
- Scientists
- Industrialists
Prof Arun Kumar Grover, PU vice-chancellor inaugurated the international workshop. He said that such workshops should be promoted and all the institutes/colleges of the region should be encouraged to be a part of such intellectual international programs.
Prof O P Katare, PU Director, Research Promotion Cell congratulated the organisers for holding such a program on a very important topic of process safety and risk engineering.
Prof S K Mehta, who is the local coordinator of GIAN program delivered the welcome address. He also stressed on the concept of GIAN and the role of PU to disseminate knowledge in the cutting edge areas by inviting reputed international faculty.

Dr Faisal Irshad Khan, faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Memorial University of New Foundland appreciated the importance of such interactive workshops. He stressed on to sensitise the people from industry, faculty and research scholars on the need and importance of process safety, risk assessment and its minimization.
Dr Faisal Irshad Khan also thanked the organisers for inviting him to share his vast experiences in the field of safety and risk engineering.
While course-coordinator of this international workshop, Surinder Singh Bhinder briefed audiences about the course content. He also talked about the significance of the workshop.
