The Syndicate governing Panjab University has decided to re-start taking the entrance exam for admission in MA Economics course. It suggested that it will make sorting of candidates process easier by bringing them under common performance check.
Panjab University, Chandigarh has re-introduced entrance exam for M.A. Economics course for the 2019-20 academic year. The Panjab University syndicate has decided to reboot the exam so that students from all over India can be judged on a fair benchmark. On Monday, 18th February, the Panjab University Syndicate gave their nod on the proposal.
The entrance test of M.A. Economics course will follow the same question pattern followed by other entrance tests of the university. There will be 75 Multiple Choice (MCQ) type questions to answer in the paper and for every wrong answer, 0.4 marks will be deducted.
The questions asked in the Panjab University in MA Economics entrance exam will be on the following subjects:
- Macroeconomics
- Microeconomics
- Indian economy
- Economics growth
- Development and Planning
- Mathematics and Statistics
- Econometrics
- Applied Economics
- Logical Reasoning
The Syndicate has decided that the question paper for MA Economics Entrance Test will not anymore be made by externals which will help the university save some cost.
A senior faculty member of Economics at Panjab University suggested that on an average, 12,000 students apply from all over India for 80 seats in MA Economics which is one of the most sought after courses in Panjab University. He also added that different universities in India have different marking systems and benchmarks. So it becomes difficult for PU to grant admission at the basis of candidate's performance in the BA course. The entrance test will help set a common benchmark of merit for the applicants.

The University has declared, that the question paper for MA Economics Entrance in PU will follow the university’s B.A. (General) syllabus of Economics subject.
