Yesterday i.e. 21st June’ 16 was International Yoga Day and India celebrated it in full force. In this spirit, the Visva Bharati University in West Bengal decided to launch a post-graduate diploma course in yoga studies as part of their brand new Yoga Education Centre for the current academic year only. Their Yoga Education Center is east India’s very first yoga centre at University level.
Apart from Visva Bharati University, following five Universities are thinking about including yoga in their curriculum:
- Central University of Kerala
- Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in Amarkantak
- Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand
- The Central University of Rajasthan in Ajmer
- Manipur University in Imphal
This academic year i.e. in the year 2016, 6 central Universities will have a completely funded and functioning department of yoga.This announcement was recently made by the HRD Ministry otherwise known as Ministry of Human Resource Development .
Recently when Sabujkoli Sen, Director of Studies at Visva Bharati University was asked about the PG program they are launching he said that they are trying to launch a PG Diploma course in the present academic year beginning July-August. The HRD Ministry has already sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the infrastructure and Rs 5 crore for bringing in faculty and for training them. As the curriculum and infrastructure develop, they will start BSc, MSc and certificate courses.
