From this year, IIM Trichy will start offering MBA degree for the graduates of PG management programmes. The IIM Bill 2017 which was passed by the Parliament in December 2018 cleared the way for awarding MBA degrees to graduates at IIMs.
Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has confirmed by that the Postgraduate (PG) programme which is offered by Indian Institute of Management, Trichy has been declared as equivalent to Master’s degree of an Indian varsity for the purpose of admission to higher studies.
Prafulla Agnihotri, Director of IIM Trichy, revealed that the Equivalence Certification given by Association of Indian Universities would enable the Postgraduate Programme (PGP) in Management students to pursue higher education in foreign countries as well as apply for government jobs without any issues related to degree recognition. Hereafter, degree certificate awarded by IIM Trichy will be equivalent to a Master’s degree offered by an Indian varsity.

IIM Trichy tabled the proposal for Equivalence Certificate in a meeting with Equivalence Committee which took place on January 5, 2017. Later, the proposal was placed before the Governing Council in a meeting that was held on January 21, 2017. The meeting took place at AIU House, New Delhi. After holding discussions and studying the proposal, AIU granted Equivalence Certificate to PGP in Management of IIM Trichy.

With the current accreditation, IIM Trichy has joined the list of institutes which have similar recognition for PGDM course which include Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, IIM Kolkata , IIM Bangalore , IIM Indore , IIM Lucknow and IIM Ahmedabad . AIU has also clarified that AICTE and NBA approval is not applicable and mandatory for the programmes offered by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
Recently, the Union Cabinet approved IIM Bill 2017 through which greater autonomy will be given to these premier B-Schools to award degrees.
