Prime Minster, Narendra Modi has laid the foundation for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), Gorakhpur on 22-July-2016. The institute is to be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,011 crore.
Union Health Minister, Mr. JP Nadda said that this was really a great day for Uttar Pradesh. He thanked the prime minister for giving accent for the establishment of AIIMS at Gorakhpur. This project is a major step towards serving humanity, he added.

He also mentioned that the prime minister has taken special initiatives to provide more health facilities in Uttar Pradesh. AIIMS will benefit the 14 districts across eastern Uttar Pradesh. The institute is aimed to provide reliable tertiary level health care.
The institute will be constructed in the 112 acres of land which will be completed in 45 months. Each medical batch will consist of 100 students and 60 students for the nursing batch. The institute will provide primary and secondary level health services. The institute also focuses on conducting research activities related to various diseases and cure for those diseases.
The government has also sanctioned new AIIMS for Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh and Kalyani (West Bengal) last year. The construction works have partially commenced in Mangalagiri.
