Young India, New India: PM Narendra Modi asks Students to become Job Creators

Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, addressed the Student Leaders' Convention to mark the event of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Centenary Celebrations and 125th Year of the Chicago Address delivered by Swami Vivekanand. The event was held at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Chief Guest at the convention, PM Narendra Modi addressed the student leaders from across the country and spoke regarding the theme "Young India, New India - A Resurgent nation: From Sankalp to Siddhi".

The programme was also attended by Sports Minister Rajyawardhan Rathore and Union Minister of State for Culture (I/C), Mahesh Sharma.

He paid tribute to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Swami Vivekananda on the occasion. PM Narendra Modi cited the example of a man who went in search for a job to Dada Dharmidhikari to emphasize the importance of skill development. He said that Vivekananda separated skill and knowledge and added that the youth of the country must aim to become Job-creator instead of Job-seeker.

The PM also added that Vivekananda's predictions about 'One Asia' have come true and that Asia is one of the world leaders and is coming up with solutions for various problems in the world. He also added that the teachings of Swami Vivekananda's have a lot of relevance in the modern world as well.

The PM added that some of the teachings of Swami Vivekananda included agricultural revolution, skill development, entrepreneurship and resistance against social evils that have a lot of relevance in the modern world.

PM also urged the student leaders to take initiatives to keep their campuses clean and include this in their poll agenda during university elections. He also encouraged the students to celebrate the cultural diversity of India. With India's youth touching billions, India has emerged as a major education hub. With some of the internationally ranked engineering colleges , management colleges , science & research colleges located in India, it is imperative that the students of today think beyond the box and become job creators, instead of job seekers.

He also added that creativity should be encouraged as it is the foundation of development. He also said that we should recognize our flaws and try to overcome our imperfections in order to make India great.

The PM said that 'youth is not a situation, but it is a mentality’. He also added that the world will not evaluate India on the basis of our past but will judge us on where we stand today.
