The students of Jamia Milia Islamia University who stay in hostel wrote a letter stating that the Human Resources Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar is not welcome in the hostels of the University. The HRD Minister will be visiting the University to inaugurate the new girl’s hostel. On this occasion, the authorities of the University asked all the students to attend the event. The University made it mandatory for students to attend the event and stated that whoever does not attend the same will be penalised. This is because obviously, the University wants to present themselves in the best way possible.

The notice was circulated by the Provost, Baran Farooqi a week ago hoping to convince a maximum number of students. But this effort of theirs faced a very big hurdle when the girls of the hostel refused to attend the event and even said that Prakash Javadekar is not at all welcome there.

The girls have written an open letter to the Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar in which they said that he is not welcome on campus. They wrote the letter as they feel that the ministry has done nothing to make the campus a better or secure place for girls. The harassment or sexual assault charges are not taken seriously and the ministry has not come up with a solution to stop these incidents from happening. The hostel residents believe that this visit of Javadekar will bring more rules and restrictions to the hostel. The students ended the letter saying that he has no legitimacy to visit the hostel as he and his ministry has failed to implement rules and regulations for their safety.
