President of India Inaugurates Centre for Defence Studies at Andhra University

  • Centre for Defence Studies at Andhra University is the first-of-its-kind in any university across the country.
  • Ministry of Defence is providing a grant of Rs. 60 crore for setting up this centre.

Honourable President of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the Centre for Defence Studies at Andhra University. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, President of India hoped that the Centre for Defence Studies at Andhra University would focus on corrosion technology, radar and communications, nanotechnology, cybersecurity, and other technologies that have strategic dimensions. Researchers and professors from Andhra University are collaborating on specific projects with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Naval Research Board, which is highly appreciable, he added.

Adding further, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind pointed that a few professors from Andhra University had been used as Research and Development (R & D) consultants for missile projects including the development of Brahmos missile. In the area of Defence Research, Andhra University is doing an impressive job, which was appreciated by the honourable President.

Vice Chancellor of Andhra University, Mr. Nageswara Rao explained that the Centre for Defence Studies is the first-of-its-kind in any university across the country. The major responsibility of the centre is to cater to the research and education requirements of the defence sector. Ministry of Defence is providing a grant of Rs. 60 crore for setting up this centre which will be equipped with all the resources necessary for research soon, he informed.

The Andhra University has been offering various courses for the Navy, Air Force and Army personnel. All these courses will be offered through Centre for Defence Studies now. With a motive to offer courses in the defence sector, Andhra University had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Defence Sector. Through this collaboration, Andhra University launched 117 courses in the Defence sector.
