President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee will be visiting Punjab for a day on 2nd May 2017. He will also be the honourable guest at the 8th convocation of LPU or Lovely Professional University , Chaheru situated in Phagwara, a sub-division of Kapurthala district. VP Singh Badnore, the Punjab governor will also preside at the convocation function.
It will be the President’s second visit to the LPU. He had visited the university on 20th May 2013, also in connection with its 3rd convocation along with the Chief Minister of Punjab. S. Prakash Singh Badal and President of Afganistan Mr. Hamid Karzai who awarded degrees to the graduates.

According to a release by the university, the President will be giving out gold medals to thirty-eight students while around sixteen thousand regular and distance learning students belonging to different areas of the country as well as from fifty other countries will be getting diplomas, degrees and certificates.

Lovely Professional University is a semi-residential university college which is situated in Jalandhar, Punjab. LPU was founded as a part of the Punjab State Private University Act in the year 2015 by Mr. Ashok Mittal. It is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of UGC Act 1956. LPU offers around two hundred courses and programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, graduate, diploma and doctoral levels. The university has more than thirty thousand students graduating each year.
