Professor Errol D'Souza has taken up the charge as the director of the prestigious IIM Ahmedabad . Professor D'Souza took up office as the interim Director from September 2, 2017, and started managing the administrative tasks at the institute.
A professor of Economics at the IIM Ahmedabad , Errol D'Souza was also the Dean of Faculty. He pursued a degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Mumbai and was awarded his Ph.D. as a National Research Fellow of University Grants Commission from the Jawaharlal Nehru University .
Professor D’Souza was appointed on Wednesday, January 31, 2017, just a few hours before the IIM Act came into effect. The act will enable the IIMs the authority to appoint the directors of respective institutes as well as chairpersons of the board of governors.

Before starting out at IIM Ahmedabad, Prof D'Souza has held the office as the IFCI Chair Professor at the University of Mumbai , a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University , Honorary Senior Fellow at National University of Singapore ’s Institute of South Asian Studies and as a Visiting Professor at ILO’s Turin School of Development.
He has also been part of the academic committees of the Indian Council of Social Science Research and University Grants Commission. Apart from this, he has also worked with the Reserve Bank of India and the Planning Commission of India in various capacities.

Prof D'Souza succeeded Ashish Nanda, the previous Director of IIM-A , who had put down his papers in April 2017 before the end of his term. Nanda was a former professor of Harvard Law School and was also the first professor from an overseas institute to take up office as the Director of an IIM.
