Professor Vinita Sahay has been appointed as the first Director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodhgaya . HRD Ministry has successfully appointed the head of this premier institute in the second attempt.
In 2017, the government had shortlisted the name of Mr. Ganesan Kannabiran from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy . However, Mr. Ganesan was not interested to hold the position of Director of IIM Bodhgaya and turned down the offer. Later, the government sent the names of other two finalists for the appointment to Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC).

Professor Vinita Sahay was one among the finalists and ACC finalised her name for the post of Director. At present, she is working as a professor at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur specialist in Marketing Management . She is the second women to hold the position of Director of an IIM.
Last year, Neelu Rohmetra made was appointed as the first women director of IIM. She was appointed as the Director of IIM Sirmaur.
IIM Act will come into effect from January 31, 2018, after which, the Government of India will have no role in the appointment of Directors. As per IIM Bill 2017, BoG of respective IIMs will have the authority to appoint the head of the institutes. Apart from appointments, IIMs will have complete autonomy in financial and academic matters. IIMs will start awarding degrees instead of diplomas.
