SGTB Khalsa College , Delhi University started an online refresher course in Chemistry, a one of its kind digital course on the subject, developed and designed by the National Resource Centre of Chemistry (NRCC) of the HRD ministry.
Online and offline refresher courses in subjects such as chemistry, human rights, e-business, climate change, social inclusion are helping the college and university professors enhance their skills and pass on the knowledge to the students.
AK Bakshi, NRCC Chairman said that due to the advancement in chemistry knowledge, many new sub-disciplines have come up such as food chemistry, green chemistry, and astrochemistry. They have included modules focusing on the latest developments in the subject.

The course will be taught through online quizzes and video tutorials. The centre has taken inputs from academicians such as CNR Rao who is Bharat Ratna awardee and Ved Prakash, former chairman of the UGC. The course also includes information and communications technology tools (ICT) on how to create animation keyboards or audio-visual recordings. They also help track a learner’s online performance which can help the teachers improve their training methods.

Approximately 2,300 teachers have signed up for the free online course that will end in February. Prior to this, teachers used to take part in online refresher courses but then they couldn’t find the time or were not able to get leave for the same, as per Vimal Rarh, coordinator and chemistry faculty for NRCC.
Apart from this, there are takers for the refresher courses in commerce and business. Fellowships are also becoming important for professors to focus more on research and connect with a group of experts from all over the world in the field.
