The National Students Union of India (NSUI) of Dibrugarh University staged peaceful demonstrations at the entrance of the varsity to protest the interference of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in educational institutions. This happened in the wake of nationwide protest over the police crackdown of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) over charges of the alleged colonial sedition by JNU President Kanhaiya Kumar.
The NSUI members of the University said that the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was trying to forcibly impose and inject their ideologies and policies in educational institutions. The events unfolding in Jawaharlal Nehru University is disturbing the integrity of the entire nation in its true sense.
“The police crackdown on students in Jawaharlal Nehru University is the latest example of interference and high-handedness of the Central government. The Central government wants to dictate students’ thinking, curb views, students’ voice and their free speech. This is not acceptable to us”, said Hemango Sensowa, President of the DU unit of NSUI.
