On 15th of September 2019, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras began its two-day programme of “IIT Madras - Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Entreprises Technology Conclave and Exhibition. The event is focused on contributing to the “Vision New India 2022 - Development through Technology for All” programme.
The focus of the event is to develop future collaborative opportunities in the realm of Technology Development and capacity building in society among other objectives. A thought leadership had been formed to boost the academia-industry relations between IIT Madras and the Central Public Sector Enterprises to meet the needs of both the industry and academia, i.e. research activities and initiatives boosting Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR).
The Technology Conclave at the institute saw the display of the CSR initiatives of PSUs along with the start-ups and Centres of Excellence at IIT Madras. The different PSUs, CoEs and Start-ups displayed the journey of the products from “laboratory to the real world”. The event also saw the social impact that IIT Madras with different PSUs were able to make through different initiatives.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras through its IIT Madras Research Park has been collaborating with different industries in both the private and public sectors extensively. Sources state that the Indian Institute of Technology Madras has not only been reforming their academia and research but their research outcomes have also been positively affecting the overall performance of the industries and in turn the society.
The IIT Madras Director, Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi, state that through the Technology Conclave, the institute aims to plan out innovative and creative methods of achieving CSR initiatives and in turn improve the overall impact of the CSR activities that are being undertaken in the country.

The IIT Madras Director further added that they have been experimenting on conducting research in areas where such research have not been conducted. He stated that with the use of the resources available to them, they will be able to conduct valuable research, which on the completion of the research will result in a huge impact on society. One of the areas that they have been working towards is medical technology, specifically research activities in Assistive Technologies and treatment of water & sanitation.

The Technology Conclave that is being held at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, is among one of the academia-industry relation-building steps that have been undertaken by the educational institutions in India. Institutes from across India have been partnering up with different industry giants in the respective fields to promote a better output of graduates as per the industry requirements.
