Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) along with two other educational institutes in Pune have collaborated to roll out postgraduate diploma courses in Electric Mobility. The duration of the diploma courses is one year.
The technical colleges in Pune are all set to commence the course this month. A US-based tech company, Altair, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) on 21st August 2019. Both the parties signed the MoU to show that they have partnered with each other and inaugurated a Centre of Excellence on Electric Mobility at CoEP (College of Engineering, Pune). The centre will offer a full-time PG-D in Electric Mobility for students from Electrical and Mechanical Engineering streams.

Apart from SPPU and CoEP, Cummins College of Engineering for Women will also be conducting the diploma in Electric Mobility. At every institute, the intake capacity will be 20 students. The Pune-based ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) will provide the students with the required tools. The course is divided into three semesters. The diploma will be covering the following topics:
Energy storage systems for battery management
Sensors
Vehicle dynamics & Traction
Electric vehicles
Internet of Things (IoT)
Vehicle communication

Talking about the new course, the director of the College of Engineering, Pune, BB Ahuja says that the course focuses mainly on areas like Economic, Environment and Social aspects. He says that the course is unique as both the academic and industry are working together on making it a successful attempt. To this the Managing Director of Altair (India), Vishwanath Rao said that it is important to train students to gain knowledge of industry requirements.
As the government has begun to promote electric vehicles, the automobile industry is reaching at newer heights. With this, the course will be proved an employment generator for the engineering students of our country as the demands of skilled manpower will be increased in the automobile industry.
