Wasudeo Gade, Vice Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University, announced that Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), a scheme of HRD Ministry would set up a new platform named ‘Kanad’ at varsity. The primary objective of the scheme is to ensure various innovative ideas proposed by the students get industry-academia support. The work for the establishment of ‘Kanad’ is being carried out in phases and will be launched soon. He made this announcement at the university’s senate meeting.

He also announced that the varsity is going to introduce ferrying of answer sheets of students through a GPS tracking system. He explained that a BPL tracker would mark each bundle of answer sheets. The examination department at the varsity would be communicated with, through the signals from the truck’s GPS system. It will eliminate the possibilities of any misdoing in the conduction of examinations.
He also announced that with the help of Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering, the university will introduce Masters in Technology (M.Tech). Similarly, M.Tech (Information Technology) would be launched with the help of Quick Heal Technologies and another course namely M.Tech (Automotive Technology) would be introduced in association with KPIT Technologies.
He clarified that the varsity has taken complete control over thermal power project located at Shive village. Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) has handed over a project to varsity on “Technology Development in Solar Thermal Power Plant and its Demonstration for Rural Electrification & Energy Need”.
The Senate has also approved to establish a School of Education in the following departments, i.e., Department of Physical Education, Department of Adult Education and Department of Advanced Technology. The members of Senate also proposed the inclusion of Yoga studies in the same school.
