State Technical Education Minister of Punjab, Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi revealed that the state government would provide free Wi-Fi facility in all government polytechnic institutions, engineering colleges and Industrial Training Institutes. For this purpose, the state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Reliance JIO.
With an objective to help the students in their academic needs, the state government has taken the initiative to provide fee Wi-Fi facility. On the other hand, the aim of the government is to promote cashless transactions. The state government wants to bring in complete digitisation in the coming years.

Mr. Charanjit Singh further revealed that Reliance JIO would set up the required infrastructure for providing free Wi-Fi facility. The company will incur the cost of equipment and electricity. The company assured that it would block all the objectionable websites as per the directives of government.
The Education Minister directed the principals of all the technical institutes to provide necessary space for the installation of free Wi-Fi facility.
It is a great initiative taken by the Government of Punjab. The free Wi-Fi facility will help the students in their academics, project works and other research acttivities.

Recently, the Government of India also decided to provide Wi-Fi facility in all the 38 central universities across the country at a minimal cost. Similarly, the Government of Haryana is also providing free Wi-Fi facility in all the government colleges. Mumbai University also opted for 100% Wi-Fi coverage on the campus.
