The University of Delhi has secured a spot among the top 10 universities in the country by QS University World Rankings 2017-18. As far as world rankings concerned, DU has been ranked in the 481-491 band. The varsity emerged as the eighth top university in India after the top-ranked Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) . The data related to the rankings was made available by QS University World Rankings.

The rankings are based on the six performance indicators across four areas that include -
- Internationalisation
- Employability
- Teaching
- Research
The performance indicators are-
- International student ratio
- International faculty ratio
- Citations per faculty
- Student-to-faculty ratio
- Employer reputation
- Academic reputation

Karnataka-based Manipal University has been ranked highest among the private universities in the country. The varsity managed to a find a spot in the 701-750 band for the first time. The varsity bagged the 13 th place in the country and will now definitely focus on getting a better rank in 2018-19 rankings.
On the other hand, Savitribai Phule Pune University that witnessed a major drop in world rankings claimed that the data collected by QS University World Rankings was not correct while reporting errors in the data. The varsity also claimed that the rankings authority has named the varsity as the University of Pune instead of SPPU. In response to that, the varsity has taken the decision to study the assessment methodologies of the rankings before taking an action.
