Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) lashed out at the administration of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, and protested strongly against the delay in resolving the alleged corruption regarding the revaluation of marks that has tainted the examination department.

The protesters started gathering at 10am where two of them were dressed up as members of a local tribal community and whipped themselves to get the attention of the administration. Others tried to break into a window to have a face-to-face with the administration but were kept from entering by security staffers.
Pradip Gavade, Secretary of ABVP, Pune, said that this was the third protest for the same cause. Students have constantly been complaining about the gross mistakes in the correction of papers. The photocopies of the answer sheets were released by the university administration after three months, he added. Stating that re-evaluation is not possible without photocopies, Pradip said that even after the reevaluation, marks issued to students had discrepancies. Unfair evaluation is one of the reasons why students in the university are failing and authorities are asking for bribes to issue them passing marks in re-evaluation process, added Pradip.
Gaurav Dige, a Civil Engineering student said that he was failing due to a totaling error. He said that his total marks were 37 but he was awarded 20 marks. He applied for revaluation but two months later he was told that the department does not have his answer sheet. Disappointed in the system, Gaurav turned to RTI and got the error verified but his marks still remain the same.

Ashok Chavan, Exam Controller, SPPU, said that according to the rules of the university, the marks cannot be changed once the re-evaluation is done. Since the students claim that re-evaluation was not done fairly, the matter will be put up in front of the Vice-Chancellor who will decide what to do next. He also claimed that the issue will be resolved within 10 days.
