As per the rules and regulations, 22.5 % of the total number of seats have to be reserved for the candidates belonging to the SC/ST category, i.e. 15% of the seats have been allotted to SC students and 7.5% of the seats have been allotted to the students of ST category. However, despite having the reservation quota in their favour, the seats remain empty. Kamble states that the students are unable to fill in the seats at the IIMs due to many reasons out of which, inability to compete with the competition is one of them. He also added another reason as to why the reserved seats remain empty is also because of cultural divide that the student is not able to cope with, especially the students who come from poverty and rural background.

He also adds that there have been situations where the SC/STs have been targeted in sectors of education and profession. He also says that appointing SC and ST members to the Board of Governors at the Indian Institute of Management should be considered as the introduction towards taking affirmative actions.
