If a proper strategy is followed, you can very easily score more than 150 marks with very little preparation. The question paper for CUET English is set such that each major topic carries a weightage of 4 to 5 questions i.e., 20 to 25 marks. So if only a handful of topics can help you achieve 150+ marks.
CUET English 2023: Important Topics and Tips to Score 150+ Marks
The important topics’ names, expected weightage, and tips to prepare are given below:
1. Reading comprehension- Expected number of paragraphs: 2 to 3 paragraphs
- Number of questions per paragraph: 5 to 6 questions
- Expected weightage: 50 to 90 marks
When it comes to reading comprehension, there is nothing specific to prepare but speed, focus, and understanding is what one needs to solve these unseen passages. Practice mock passages and draw a conclusion for each passage. At least one question out of the five is likely to be asked about the passage’s conclusion.

2. Verbal ability- Important topics: Figures of speech and Analogy
- Number of questions per topic: 4 to 5 questions
- Expected weightage: 40 to 50 marks
Prepare all figures of speech and be sure to avoid confusion between two similar terms. It is most likely that such questions will be asked more. For analogy, practicing the mock test is the best way to proceed.
3. Choose the correct word- Important topics: Fill in the blanks, Spelling errors, Improvement of sentences, and Cloze test.
- Number of questions per topic: 3 to 5 questions
- Expected weightage: 50 to 80 marks
Basic grammar knowledge and rules are all you need to solve this section. Be sure to learn article usage, verbs, prepositions, active/passive voices, clauses, etc.
4. Vocabulary- Important topics: Synonyms, Antonyms, One-word substitution, and Idioms/phrases
- Number of questions per topic: 3 to 5 questions
- Expected weightage: 50 to 80 marks
Again, knowledge of the language is what makes this section easy. Practice mocks to improve your vocabulary.
5. Rearrangement- Number of questions: 4 to 5 questions
- Expected weightage: 20 to 25 marks
